About Me

Nathaniel L. Ward, proudly resides in the South Chicago neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. He earned an Associate of Liberal Arts Degree at Moraine Valley Community College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration at Governor State University. He is listed in the 1993 edition of Who’s Who among America College and University students and was honored in 2007 by the Chicago Defender as being one of Chicago’s “50 Men of Excellence”
“Nate”, as he is known to his friends, has been helping others most of his life. He is currently employed as the Director of Community Outreach & Engagement for City Colleges of Chicago, where he proudly assists students of all ages obtain the educational goals. Prior to that he briefly worked as a salesman for the historic Chicago Defender newspaper and for 16 years worked for South Central Community Services, Inc., where he wasthe Director of Community Relations & Development.
Mr. Ward has been served as Chairman of the Dyett High School Local School Council for the past 3 years, where under his leadership the LSC elected a new principal and has grown school attendance and test scores. Nate is a former Commissioner for the Robbins Park District, a position he held for 6 yearsand was the third generation in his family to be elected to that position. He was a member of the Village of Robbins Planning Board where for 10 years has was active in planning new developmentfor the Village. As a student at Governor State University, Nate founded Project Manhood, a student organization that provided mentors for young black men. Also as a young adult, he coached basketball and baseball for the Robbins Park District. He currently is a member of 100 Black Men of Chicago, where he continues that tradition of mentoring young black youth.
Mr. Ward credits his mother, Mary “Jeanie” Ward, and his grandparents, Homer L. Ward and the late Mary E. Ward, with instilling in him responsibility, honesty, and pride. To this end he has directed his formal education, professional associations and community projects to address the needs of those less fortunate. He truly believes “to whom much is given, much is expected.” Mr. Ward has one child, Niya, who is a recent graduate of Dyett High School and is committed to becoming a teacher for Chicago Public schools.
